And this week’s reads are….

Cover- The Road

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

This book’s so bloody depressing! And the dialogue! It’s bland and repetitive for sure, but it also manages to punch you right in the feels. I watched part of the movie years ago and  it’s sad and dark and unfortunately I also remember the ending, so the book is a bit spoiled for me. I’m listening to the audiobook version of this and I think the narrator is doing a good job considering the unusual sentences and the repetitive dialogue.

Cover- Everfair

Everfair by Nisi Shawl

Everfair provides an interesting alternative course of events to the Belgian occupation of the Congo. I was apathetic towards the first half of the book, but I’m finding more emotional connection to the characters and events in the latter portions. This said, I feel like so much more could have been done to draw the reader in and encourage further curiosity and learning about the Congo. I was more engaged with King Leopold’s Ghost which is NONFICTION.

  1. I read The Road a few years ago, and the grammar was a major hurdle for me, and I think was probably why I didn’t like it as much as most other people. Audio book sounds like it is a good was to go about this story. Although, they are probably some out there who would say that the grammar choices are what makes the books so unique and good? Lol
